From a Career Gap to a New Beginning in Oman
Every career journey has its story. Mine has been a journey of learning, challenges, relocation and finding the courage to start again.
I’m Rasna Sajith, an M.Sc. Computer Science postgraduate with a passion for technology and learning skills. After completing my education my career journey took a path. I had a 10-year career gap, during which I worked as a school computer teacher.
Although my career did not always move in the direction I had planned I continued to learn and gain experience. Working as a computer teacher helped me develop communication skills, patience, responsibility and confidence.
A New Chapter in Oman
After marriage and starting my family my life took another turn. My husband was working in Oman. Later I moved to Oman with my family.
Moving to a country was a completely new experience for me. I wanted to continue my career and become professionally independent again.
After settling in Oman I started looking for opportunities in schools. However I realized that getting a school teaching position would be difficult because I did not have a B.Ed. Qualification.
Of giving up I started looking for another career path that would suit my background and allow me to learn from home.
That search introduced me to Digital Marketing.
Discovering Digital Marketing
Digital marketing immediately caught my attention because it combines technology, creativity, communication and business.
With my Computer Science background I felt that digital marketing could give me an opportunity to use my existing knowledge while developing new skills.
I decided to take the step and joined IOD Institute, Kasargod to learn digital marketing.
What I’m Learning
My marketing journey is still at the learning stage but every new topic has increased my confidence.
I’m currently developing skills in:
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Social Media Marketing
Content Marketing
Canva and creative content
Digital marketing strategy
Target audience and customer journey
Website design
Content creation
I’m also exploring digital marketing tools and platforms and applying what I learn through practical assignments and projects.
From Learning to Practical Experience
One thing I have realized during this journey is that digital marketing is not about creating and posting content.
It is about understanding the audience creating valuable content improving online visibility and helping businesses connect with their customers.
Building my portfolio website has also given me an opportunity to put my learning into practice. From creating content and designing visuals to learning about SEO and websites every step is helping me grow.
My Goal to Become a Freelance Digital Marketer
My goal is to build a career as a Freelance Digital Marketer.
I want to help businesses strengthen their presence through SEO, social media marketing, content marketing and other digital marketing strategies.
For me becoming a digital marketer is more than simply starting a new career. It represents a beginning and an opportunity to become professionally independent again.
A Career Gap Is Not the End
My career gap is a part of my story but it does not define my future.
Moving to Oman facing challenges discovering digital marketing and starting to build new skills have all been important steps in my journey.
Starting again after a career break can feel difficult. There can be doubts and uncertainty.. I have learned that taking one step at a time can lead to a completely new direction.
Today I’m learning, experimenting, creating and building my skills every day.
My journey, to becoming a Freelance Digital Marketer has just begun.. I’m excited to see where this new chapter takes me.
